Responsibilities
- Assist physicians and advanced practice providers with minimally invasive, image-guided interventional procedures in routine and emergency cases.
- Operate specialized imaging equipment, prepare patients, and maintain a sterile environment during procedures such as injections, angiography, biopsies, tube placements, and thrombolysis.
- Review patient charts to verify orders and exam rationale; assess medications (e.g., blood thinners) and NPO status; interview patients about history, implanted devices, and contrast allergies.
- Explain procedures to patients, provide pre- and post-procedure care, patient education, and discharge instructions.
- Adjust, maintain, and operate imaging equipment to obtain high-quality diagnostic images; monitor vital signs as applicable.
- Manage supplies and equipment for procedures; retrieve medications as requested by the provider; administer contrast under radiologist supervision when needed.
- Monitor for adverse reactions and ensure safety throughout procedures; apply ALARA principles to minimize radiation exposure.
- Maintain accurate documentation in EMR and manage imaging data in PACS; ensure proper storage and retrieval of images for physician review.
- Collaborate with radiologists and other health care professionals; respond to emergencies and provide Basic Life Support as required.
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of interventional radiology experience, including neuro IR cases and GI embolization cases.
- Certification: ARRT RT(R) certification required, or one of the following advanced credentials: RT(VI), RT(CV), RT(CI), or RCIS.
- Clinical qualifications: Demonstrated ability to work in a hospital setting; familiarity with interventional radiography workflow and procedures.
- Basic life support: BLS certification required.
- Other: Eligible to work in the United States; ability to comply with on-call rotation and rotating shift requirements.
