About This Contract

Embark on a rewarding journey as a Registered Nurse in PCU in Plattsburgh, New York, where your clinical leadership and compassionate care help patients navigate complex transitions. In the Progressive Care Unit, your expertise will bridge the gap between inpatient medicine and critical care, guiding patients through recovery with vigilant assessment, precise monitoring, and family-centered education. Imagine the impact you can have—every shift a chance to collaborate with physicians, nurses, and support teams to craft individualized care plans and champion timely, safe discharges. The opportunity here is about more than a job; it’s a platform to elevate patient outcomes, mentor peers, and shape the standard of compassionate, evidence-based nursing in a vibrant upstate community. And beyond the unit, New York’s beauty awaits: Adirondack skylines, Lake Champlain’s shimmering shores, fall foliage painting the countryside, historic waterfronts, and a region where outdoor adventures, cultural experiences, and welcoming neighborhoods converge to create a remarkable living and working environment.

Location benefits Plattsburgh offers a unique blend of small-town warmth and access to extraordinary natural beauty. Enjoy four seasons of outdoor recreation—from hiking the surrounding Adirondack trails and kayaking on Lake Champlain to skiing in nearby hills and exploring picturesque parks. The city provides a tight-knit healthcare community with easy access to colleagues, continuing education opportunities, and a balanced pace that supports professional focus and personal well-being. For nurses drawn to exploring across the country, this assignment can be a gateway to other locations across the U.S., expanding your professional network, exposing you to diverse patient populations, and enriching your clinical repertoire. You’ll gain firsthand experience with different practice environments—community hospitals, academic-affiliated centers, and regional medical centers—while savoring renowned regional cuisines, local festivals, markets, and the quiet charm of upstate life.

Role specifics and benefits Key responsibilities in PCU include comprehensive patient assessment, hemodynamic monitoring, and timely interpretation of labs and imaging to detect subtle changes in status. You’ll administer medications and therapies per physician orders, implement evidence-based nursing protocols, manage IVs and monitoring devices, and respond effectively to rapid changes in patient condition. You’ll actively participate in rounding with the multidisciplinary team, contribute to care planning, and coordinate with case management for smooth transitions to step-down units or discharge. Documentation must be precise, up-to-date, and aligned with regulatory standards, while you educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, expected progress, and safety considerations. Leadership opportunities exist through precepting new staff, sharing best practices, and contributing to quality improvement initiatives within the PCU.

This role offers competitive benefits designed to support your career trajectory and financial well-being. A competitive weekly pay band of $2,285-$2,323 reflects the value you bring to the unit, with the potential for a sign-on bonus, housing assistance, and opportunities to extend or renew assignments as you demonstrate clinical excellence and leadership. You’ll have access to robust 24/7 support from the travel program—our team is with you every step of the way, from onboarding and credentialing to housing logistics and on-call clinical guidance. Travel assignments emphasize flexibility, with hours and shifts scheduled to align with patient needs and your preferences, while providing opportunities to broaden your clinical skill set through exposure to diverse patient populations and care settings. Start date is 03/12/2026 for several-week assignments, with details on duration determined in collaboration with your clinical manager. Note: The hours and pay rates listed are estimates and may vary. Final compensation packages and guaranteed hours will be confirmed during the hiring process.

The program also highlights extension opportunities, enabling you to deepen your expertise in PCU, pursue specialty certifications, and potentially transition into permanent roles within partner facilities. In addition to clinical growth, you’ll receive housing assistance and access to resources designed to ease relocation and travel, ensuring you can focus on clinical excellence and patient care. Throughout your journey, you’ll be supported by a company that values teamwork, continuous improvement, and a culture of recognition for hard work and compassionate care.
